Oregon State Men's Soccer Camps

Adam Pearce
Assistant Coach

Adam Pearce enters his second season as an assistant coach with the Oregon State men's soccer program. He served the previous three seasons as the head men's and women's soccer coach at Spring Hill College.

Under Pearce's guidance, Oregon State keeper Steve Spangler had one of the best seasons in goal in Oregon State history in 2009 after posting a goal against average of 1.27 which places him tied for seventh all-time in a single season. His career mark of 1.22 is tied for first all-time.

In three seasons under Pearce, Spring Hill College (Mobile, Ala.) tallied a 26-22-7 record in women's soccer and a 12-34-6 record in men's soccer. In 2007 and 2008, the Lady Badgers posted their first consecutive winning seasons in program history, finishing second in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) in '07. Pearce finished his tenure with the most career wins in SHC women's history.

Pearce had three men and seven women named All-GCAC in his time at SHC. Two male and seven female athletes were named Daktronics NAIA Scholar Athletes along with two of his women's teams achieving recognition as NAIA Scholar Teams. In 2008, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) also selected his women's team to receive a Scholar Team Award.

Prior to Spring Hill College, Pearce spent two seasons as an assistant coach with Concordia (Ore.) University and served as an assistant coach at Central Arkansas for one season. In addition, Pearce served as the head coach at Ridgefield (Wash.) High School and was a graduate assistant coach at Akron for one season.

Pearce played for three seasons at Concordia, where he was a two-time all-conference selection and earned NAIA Honorable Mention All-America honors in 1999. He then went on to play professionally for the Portland Timbers and participated in professional trials in England and Ireland.

Pearce graduated magna cum laude from Concordia University with a bachelor of arts in physical education in May 2000 and earned a master's of education from Akron in May 2004.

Gary Hamel
Assistant Coach

Gary Hamel enters his third season as an assistant coach with the Oregon State men's soccer program. Under Hamel the Beavers recorded a 9-6-3 overall record in 2009. They finished 5-4-1 in conference play and finished second, their highest finish in conference play since 2002.

Prior to joining Oregon State, Hamel served as an assistant at Fort Lewis College. As an assistant coach with the Skyhawks, Hamel helped lead the team to a 15-4-1 record in 2007 and a berth in the NCAA Division II regional semifinals.

Under his guidance, two Fort Lewis players were named to the all-region squad while two earned all-tournament honors as well.

This marks Hamel's second stint with the Oregon State men's soccer program as he worked with the Beavers for 18 months as a volunteer assistant coach, helping in many day-to-day activities including fitness and warm-ups. He also helped direct OSU's soccer camps and academies.

Before coming to OSU, Hamel was a long-time coach in the Bend United Soccer Club and Central Oregon Soccer Association. A graduate of Springfield (Mass.) College, he also coached at Bend High School, Summit High School and Sunriver Preparatory School.

Hamel and his wife, Kimberly, have two children, Parker and Bridget.
